The last time we spoke to Line Trudeau, CFO of FEI Canada, she explained how she was paving the way for female executives in finance. Below, she offers some details surrounding her own success, passions, and inspirations in her everyday life.

Where did you grow up?

University attended and degree earned?
HEC Montréal, where I earned both my bachelor’s degree in administration and my MBA.

Favourite subject in university?

What was your first job?
First full-time job was as an auditor at KPMG.

What was your worst job?
My first summer job as a bank teller.

What did you spend your first paycheck on?
I purchased a new car.

What’s one company you truly admire?
WestJet, as I was lucky to be featured on their 2013 Christmas Miracle video twice (at about 1:35 minutes and 3:40 minutes).

What is your biggest strength?

What is your biggest weakness?
Following driving directions.

Best advice you ever received (and from whom)?
I have received this advice from a number of wise and experienced friends: “Invest your time in growing your network, as it will become more important than spending time acquiring more technical knowledge.”

Favourite day of the workweek (and why)?
Friday, as I reflect on my accomplishments!

Biggest pet peeve?

Proudest professional achievement?
Achieving best academic results when completing my MBA and getting recognized for it by HEC Montréal and by the MBA Association.

Proudest personal achievement?
Coaching my daughter, Roxanne, and seeing her grow to become an accomplished, intelligent, driven, and successful young woman.

Passionate, creative, diligent.

How long is your commute?
One hour.

Favourite sports team?
I only watch golf or the Olympics on TV. Lately, watching Rory McIlroy play golf has been inspiring! He is passionate about golf and follows the same proven process that yields him results!

Favourite movie?
It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep and Steve Martin.

Favourite book?
The Little Prince, by Antoine Saint-Exupéry.

Favourite TV show?
Just for Laughs.

Favourite band and/or album?
Time, Love & Tenderness, by Michael Bolton.

If you weren’t in your current profession, what profession would you be in (or like to be in)?
Carpenter, as I like to create and build!

Your idea of a relaxing weekend?
A golf game or ski day with friends on Saturday and a massage at the spa on Sunday with my daughter, followed by a French meal and a glass of sauvignon blanc!

Favourite place you’ve travelled to?
Nordic Countries, Québec City, Eastern Townships, and Alaska.

What’s your personal motto?
“What does not kill you makes you stronger.”

Would your childhood self be surprised at how you’ve turned out?
Absolutely! I was born in one of the poorest French neighbourhoods in Montréal. I am now fully bilingual, very well educated, and fulfilling the role of CFO in my organization!
